It’s a time of crisis for me in relation to my case and the staggering corruption shown by Larisa police and justice officials, but it is also a time of crisis for the whole of Greece, especially for Larisa, in the centre of Greece’s “breadbasket”.
Farmers today are stepping up their protests against crushing new taxes and social security hikes which the government of Alexis Tsipras is seeking to impose, using the strategy of cutting Greece into pieces by blocking key transport arteries with thousands of tractors.
Today, they are blocking the main national highway between Athens and Thessaloniki until 8 pm on at Tempi, which is very close to Larisa, about halfway to Mount Olympus.
The farmer’s strategy is sustainable for months, if not years, and will surely bring down the government of Alexis Tsipras in weeks or days if the route in and out of the main cities is blocked. The sooner Tsipras is toppled and replaced by a “unity government”, the better.
But it’s not just the farmers who are on strike. This week almost everyone is on strike.
Hats off to the farmers! Delighted to see them so close to victory!
