A mainstream media claim that evidence has been found linking the Zika virus to birth defects in babies is based on a logical fallacy.
A team at the PUC-Parana University discovered the virus in the brains of two babies who only lived for 48 hours, says the BBC.
But just because the virus was present in the brains of two babies who lived for only 48 hours does not mean the virus caused the birth defect or death.
Correlation does not imply causation. Just because two things occur together does not mean that one thing caused the other.
