Support for Angela Merkel’s CDU has fallen to historic lowsat just 23.5%, a new poll shows.
The Bavarian sister party of the CDU, the Christian Social Union,CSU, polled at 30.5 percent.
CSU politicians are considering fielding their own candidates across the entire country for the first time during the next federal elections scheduled for 2017 in a bid to boost the centre right profile.
Other polls show that if an election were held now, Germany’s two main political parties would only scrape together 50 percent of the vote.
Two-thirds of Germans do not want Chancellor Angela Merkel to run for a fourth term, according to the poll.
