A wave of illegal migrants of “biblical proportions” from Africa could bring the Italian economy to collapse this summer, according to German and Italian media.
The Italian newspaper Il Giornale says at least a half a million people are set to migrant from Kenya in August and September alone as the result of decision to close refugee camps there.
Kenya’s government plans to shut down its two largest refugee camps, Dadaab and Kakuma, “disbanding” the Department of Refugee Affairs so as to close the camps in “the shortest time possible.”
Il Giornale expects an “exodus of biblical proportions” from Africa as desperate people seek to reach Italy via the Mediterranean.
Libya has said it will not take back migrants setting sail for Europe from Libya in an attempt to reach Europe.
