TINY NUMBERS OF IRISH PASSPORT APPLICATIONS IN NORTHERN IRELAND AND GREAT BRITAIN

A mere 4,000 people in Northern Ireland and Great Britain have made enquiries about obtaining an Irish passport following a UK vote to leave the EU, it has emerged.

Four thousand is a microscopic 0.2% of the 1.8 million people living in Northern Ireland and a minuscule percentage of the 65 million people living in Great Britain, underlining the lack of real appetite for the EU even among people in Northern Ireland of Irish ancestry entitled to an EU passport.

The number of British nationals in Great Britain who actually decide to make the switch to an Irish and EU passport will probably amount to the fingers of one hand when all the dust has settled.
