AUSTRIAN GOVERNMENT CONSIDERS OCTOBER 2ND AS DATE OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION RE RERUN

The Austrian government considers a re run of the presidential election on account of vote counting irregularities as virtually certain, and has pencilled in for it the dates of September 25th and October 2nd, according to German media.

An inquiry by the constitutional court uncovered irregular activities connected with the counting of more than a hundred thousand votes. The court did not look into the issue of whether the votes were fake.

It is to be hoped the rules for applying for postal and proxy votes as well as for counting votes are tightened up before the next attempt at an election in Austria.
