JUNCKER FEIGNS INCOMPREHENSION AT CETA CRITICISM

June 29, 2016

European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker showcased his diplomatic skills today when he lashed out at critics in Germany and Austria for criticising his decision to bypass national parliaments and implement the controversial Canadian CETA free trade deal.

“Stop that Austrian slapstick,” he fumed after an informal meeting in Brussels of 27 European states, most of whom are in the process of a revolt against him precisely because of his authoritarian touch.

Juncker feigned surprise at the criticism of the Commission’s sleight of hand in reclassifying CETA as a purely European deal, outside the jurisdiction of national parliaments.

“Personally, I couldn’t really care less,” he claimed, dissembling a deep respect for laws and his handy legal assessment giving the European Commission total power over a secretive trade deal which sets up a parallel legal system and transfers power from national parliaments to corporations.

Germany’s Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel was quick to put Juncker in his place.

“Whatever the European Commission decides, in Germany the German parliament decides,” he said.

Good to see Juncker display the kind of finesse that could be very helpful indeed in imploding the EU by the end of the summer.

DOES TRUMP WANT TO LOSE?

June 29, 2016

Yikes, Donald Trump has just called for waterboarding to be brought back.

http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2016/06/29/Trump-calls-for-return-of-waterboarding-after-Turkey-bombings/8621467203131/

Does Trump seriously support torture? Who is going to vote for a thug who wants to bring back waterboarding? Especially in America. The American Constitution and core values are not compatible with torture.

SPANISH PM AGAINST SCOTLAND EU TALKS

June 29, 2016

From the BBC:

Spain’s acting prime minister has said he is “extremely against” the EU negotiating potential membership for Scotland.

Mariano Rajoy said he “believes everyone is against it” and that “if the UK leave, Scotland leaves”.

….

US bank JP Morgan has said it now expects Scotland to vote for independence and introduce its own currency before Britain leaves the European Union in 2019.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-36656980

Scotland’s fiscal deficit is nearly 10%, a third higher than that of Greece, and two thirds higher than that allowed by EU rules.

GERMANY REBELS OVER EUROPEAN COMMISSION DECISION TO PUSH THROUGH CETA

June 29, 2016

Germany’s Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel has called the European Commission “incredibly foolish” after the Commission said it would bypass national parliaments and implement a Canadian free trade deal, CETA.

CETA and the American free trade deal, TTIP,  have met with huge opposition in Germany and Austria over fears they undermine national sovereignty and transfer power to corporations.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/international-business/european-business/growing-european-anti-trade-movement-threatens-canada-eu-deal/article30229924/

Gabriel said the EU Commission’s “stupid pushing through” of the CETA deal would lead to an explosion in conspiracy theories.

“If the EU commission does that with CETA, TTIP is dead,” he said.

http://www.mmnews.de/index.php/politik/77286-eu-ceta22

The European Commission has reclassified CETA as an administrative measure allowing it, theoretically, to implement it without the agreement of national parliaments, and thereby confirming every fear it is a totalitarian, anti democratic bureaucracy controlled by the corporations and mega banks.

So, the European Commission has now managed to alienate just about every country in European Union in just two short days after Brexit. The Visagrad four countries over secret plans to create a superstate, the eight countries which don’t have the euro over plans to force them to accept it, and now Germany, Austria and France over CETA.

Applause, Jean Claude. Keep it coming. At this rate, the European Commission will implode by the end of the month.

Jeremy Corbyn refuses to resign after no confidence motion

June 29, 2016

Amazing. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has just lost a vote of no confidence by 170 to 40. The entire Labour shadow cabinet has resigned. A new shadow cabinet member quit after just 51 hours. David Cameron pleaded in Parliament today to Corbyn to resign. “For heavens sake, man, go!” he cried to a standing ovation.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/david-cameron-tells-jeremy-corbyn-to-resign-for-heavens-sake-a7108956.html

Yet, Corbyn is still refusing to resign.

The new kind of politics of Momentum, the hard left movement which helped make Jeremy Corbyn the Labour leader, must include a tube of superglue or something.

At any rate, Corbyn’s utter disdain for his party and country recommend him for the job of European Commissioner.

AUSTRIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER WARNS OF “WILDFIRE” AFTER BREXIT

June 29, 2016

Austria’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sebastian Kurz, has warned that the Brexit vote could ignite a “wildfire” of discontent in the EU.

Kurz called the EU policy of promoting uncontrolled, permanent immigration a “mistake” and warned that citizens wanted limits.

EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES REVOLT AGAINST EU SUPERSTATE PLAN

June 29, 2016

The Visegrad four group of countries, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, have called for a less centralised EU in response to Brexit.

The initiative of the V4 comes after France and Germany drew up secret plans to create a new superstate and European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker said he would ban all currencies apart from the euro.

The four Prime Ministers of the Visegrad countries called in a joint statement for power to be given back to national states.

“The genuine concerns of our citizens need to be better reflected. National parliaments have to be heard. The institutions of the European Union need to stick to their missions and mandates. Trust also needs to be fostered among member states, starting with overcoming the artificial and unnecessary dividing lines we have seen emerging in past few months.”
