90% of Hungarians set to vote against migrant quotas in new blow to EU

Polls indicate that 90% Hungarians will today vote to reject European Union quotas for hosting migrants in a referendum.

The question on the referendum ballot is: “Do you want the European Union, also without parliament’s consent, to be able to make the settlement of non-Hungarian citizens in Hungary compulsory?”

Rules say participation must be at least 50% for the referendum to be binding, but if the turnout is lower, the Hungarian government may well argue that the sheer number of people rejecting the planned quotas makes the referendum binding.
