Just arrived in Ouranopolis, preparing to make a boat trip around Mount Athos tomorrow.
A picture of the mountain peak of Athos far in the distance wreathed in clouds and mist peaking out from behind a n ancient looking building this evening.
Striking is the large number of Russian people in this small town. As I checked into a hotel, a Russian translated for me. She told me her husband is on Mount Athos. He visited Vatopedi, among other monasteries. There are shops with Russian letters. Even the menus are in Greek and Russian. I just heard a crowd of Russian men singing as I passed a tavern on the shore, singing and clapping loudly as if they were having fun!
