A US aircraft carrier that was being used by Donald Trump to threaten North Korea with a preemptive strike, sparking fears of World War Three, was heading in the opposite direction, it has emerged.
“We’re sending an armada,” Trump told Fox News last week even as journalists like the FT’s Gideon Rachman are warning that Trump’s aggressive stance could trigger nuclear war.
Fortunately, cooler heads at the Pentagon seem to have prevailed and sent the USS Carl Vinson, powered by nuclear reactors, carrying almost 100 aircraft and accompanied by destroyers, a cruiser, and a submarine, sailing in the opposite direction to take part in exercises with the Australian navy.
Clever generals managed to conceal from the war mongering Trump for one whole week that there was no flotilla heading to North Korea. In fact, Trump might never have found out his “armada” was heading to the Indian Ocean if the Navy had not posted a photograph online on Monday of the Carl Vinson sailing through the Sunda Strait.
The unhinged Trump has now sent two more aircraft carriers to North Korea, threatening Kim Jong um that he has “got to behave.”

North Korea’s attempt to launch a new missile failed on Saturday when it blew up at the launching pad. The missle failure underlines that the country’s nuclear arsenal threatens the North Koreans themselves more than anyone. Just imagine if the missile had been carrying a nuclear war head.
We just have to hope and pray that the cool heads at the Pentagon can once more outwit Trump long enough for Congress to resume or for him and his associations to be arrested by the FBI.
