The World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed that the 12 people who died in Liberia after contracting a mystery illness did not have Ebola or Lassa fever.

WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic said samples had been sent to the CDC in Atlanta for a “toxilogical analysis,” reports Le Parisien.

The sudden deaths come a little more than a year since the Ebola epidemic was officially declared over.

The revelation that samples have been sent to a toxicology lab reinforces the notion that Liberian officials believe the 12 people were poisoned.
