ONLY 2 OUT OF 5 BLOOD SAMPLES TESTED POSITIVE FOR EBOLA

Only two out of five blood samples analysed in the Congo for Ebola actually tested positive for Ebola, according to a WHO sitauation update from May 17th, raising the question whether there is another disease circulating.

“Out of the five blood samples analysed at the national reference laboratory, Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) in Kinshasa, two tested positive for Zaire ebolavirus. At least 416 close contacts have been registered in Likati Health Zone and are being monitored,” says WHO.

A lack of clarity about which disease may have broken out in the Congo is another reason not to launch a vaccine campaign with the experimental Merck Ebola jab.
