Philippines orders justice department to investigate Sanofi over dangerous vaccine, calls for compensation grow


MANILA – The Department of Justice ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a probe on Monday into the immunization of more than 730,000 children with a vaccine for dengue that has been suspended following an announcement by French drug company Sanofi that it could worsen the disease in some cases.

The Department of Justice on Monday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into “the alleged danger to public health … and if evidence so warrants, to file appropriate charges thereon.”

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) is looking into the possibility of requiring the manufacturer of the world’s first dengue vaccine to refund the government following reports that the treatment poses risks to people without a history of dengue.
